St Jude Social Media Project

For this project, my team and I conducted a social media analysis of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during one of its busiest seasons, August through October 2025. Using Brandwatch and Google Gemini, we analyzed over 31,000 mentions and 720 posts across Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube, and benchmarked St. Jude against three leading children’s hospitals. The result was a set of ten data-backed recommendations aimed at strengthening engagement, improving sentiment, and driving donor loyalty in support of St. Jude’s mission to treat and cure childhood cancer.

Social Listening & Sentiment Analysis

Tracking 31.49K mentions from 14.26K unique authors across X, Instagram, and YouTube to uncover what audiences say about St. Jude, and how they feel about it.

Peer Benchmarking & AI-Assisted Content Audit

Compared St. Jude against Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Le Bonheur, and Boston Children’s, then coded 720+ posts by theme, engagement, and emotional tone using manual and Gemini-generated classifications.

Strategic Recommendations

Developed 10 data-backed recommendations, from the “Run for a Reason” campaign to an ambassador program and platform-specific donation CTAs, to grow engagement and donor loyalty.

What I learned from the Social Media Analytics

This project taught me how to turn raw social media data into a clear, actionable strategy. By analyzing over 31,000 mentions and 720 posts for St. Jude, I learned that high post volume doesn’t guarantee strong engagement. Content with emotional connection or a direct call to action, like patient stories and fundraising appeals, consistently outperformed general community posts. Using Brandwatch and Google Gemini strengthened my skills in social listening, sentiment analysis, and I learned to pair AI tools with my own review. I also learned that each platform serves a different purpose, so the best strategies tailor content to where the audience is. Working with a team of four taught me how to turn individual findings into one cohesive set of recommendations.
